Over the years I have had lots of enquiries about beginners photography training. So, I’ve been doing the occasional one to one training session, tailored to suit the needs of the person in question. I’ve built up a stack of notes, presentations and jargon free tips to share to help take the fear out of taking more control of your camera. I really enjoy the training sessions and so I’d like to offer them to a wider audience.
The main idea behind one to one tuition is that the course is tailored to you and you alone. You can tell me your level of skill and your areas of interest and I can create a course to cover what YOU need to know. There’s no worries about asking questions or going over things again, as it’s just you and me. We’ll look specifically at YOUR camera and I will help you to work out all it’s bells and whistles.
The other bonus of this course is it’s flexible nature. We can arrange times to suit you. You might prefer to meet in the evenings or during the day when the kids are at school, or even at the weekend. I’m very flexible (I’m my own boss!), so we can arrange the perfect time for you. Each session takes between 1-2 hours but I’m not in a hurry to rush off so if you need more time to try and understand things then we take as long as you need.
With 10 years experience as a family and child photographer (and Mum of two), I have lot’s of information and a wealth of experience to share.
If it makes you feel any better, I struggle to photograph my kids without them either pulling a silly face or overly grinning. But don’t worry, I have tips that can help you avoid the ‘CHEEEEESE’ grimace and soon you’ll be taking your photography to the next level.
Here are some testimonials from current & past students:
“I have really enjoyed the photography course and have learnt so much already about lighting, composition and about getting the most out of my camera. My photos are so much better and I now find myself thinking about how to get the best out of my photos, rather than just pointing and clicking as I did before. Gemma is a great teacher, she is passionate about the subject and this makes the lessons fun and interesting. The course has really sparked my interest in photography and I would recommend it to anyone!” Helen
“I wanted to learn how to get the best out of my camera so that I could capture special moments with my two young daughters. I had tried reading books on the subject but was confused by the jargon. The lessons with Gemma were fantastic. With her friendly, relaxed approach, she can easily translate her professional knowledge to a beginner’s level. It was great to have one-to-one help and advice on the various functions of my own camera, which is much easier to understand than the manual! I found the most useful aspect of the course was Gemma’s advice on composition and light conditions. My favourite part of the course was our practical session at the local bluebell woods, where I took some beautiful photographs of my daughters, who had great fun being models. I would wholeheartedly recommend Gemma to anyone who would like to get the most out of their camera and learn to take photographs they would be proud to display at home.” Andrea
“Having spent many years wishing to know a little more about the camera and taking photos I was lucky enough to get an individual photography course with Gemma as a Christmas present. My first session was great and Gemma made it sound easy by using terminology I could understand. During the session I was able to make sense of both aperture and shutter speed, and I now have to practice using the camera which is going well so far. After the session I practiced using the literature Gemma gave me which reminded me what I had been taught. I would recommend Gemma particularly if like me you have been interested in photography but are a little bemused by the jargon in most books/websites.” Sue
